The Bottom Line:
I wouldn't recommend this product based on the reasons given above.
I'm not going to lay too heavily into a review of this machine in the broader sense, since it is no longer in production. This review is to serve as a warning and to inform consumers to be cautious of machines manufactured by HP. This is a dual core machine based on the AMD Turion 2.2 mhz processor (a fine processor). My machine came with 2 gigs of ram and 2 hard drives (120 gigs and 80 gigs), the main reason for my selecting this machine. I purchased the computer in the early fall of 2007 from Circuit City. Up until October 15th of 2009 the machine performed flawlessly. Then in a random yet annoying behavior the machine would boot to a black screen necessitating rebooting several times to get to a functional screen with a desktop. Upon researching the issue, I discovered that HP created an extended warranty (for one year beyond the purchase warranty) for this computer due to the very same issue that I'm experiencing. However, if you are even only one day over the purchase date of the extended warranty you will be out of luck for a repair. Now, since this is a known problem and HP has extended the warranty for those who had the issue for one extra year, I have a major problem with that. This is a flaw that goes beyond the usual warranty criteria. Therefore HP has chosen to treat its customers unequally. When I contacted HP support they asked "didn't I check the HP website to determine any issues with my machine?" To which I replied "up until now I didn't have any issues, why would I be going to their website to see if there's an issue. And of course would they have repaired my machine when it wasn't showing any signs of the flaw yet? I'm in total comfort with a flaw it if is a random error and it occurs outside of the warranty. That's life. But when a manufacturer has a known problem and they fail to support all customers whenever the flaw surfaces, that is inexcusable. My goal is to alert people to be forewarned, if you purchase an HP product be aware of any future issues that might occur. I expect if they have a common flaw they'll offer a time limited warranty extension and you may be caught without any form of support from them. Buy with caution. We have a choice in the products we buy. This is my second HP machine that has died an early life. I don't expect that HP will be in my future purchase considerations.
