Excellent remote control. All I have waited for, for years!, and more.
Pros
Ability to control A LOT of devices, and know when to turn them off/on.
Cons
YOU NEED an internet connection (no workaround)!!! Price.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Adds A LOT of simplicity to your media experience IF you have a lot of media equipment. Clear labeling of activities helps older persons/kids enjoy your home entertainment capabilities.
I bought this piece of equipment based on the good reviews given here on this webpage, and also because it promised to do all the things I have, for years, expected universal remotes to do. I have NOT been disappointed!
This control remote took my devices (one European projector, a Denon AV amplifier-receiver, one DVD player, a cable box controller, and a PlayStation 2 console), and arranged them into activities ("Watch TV" consists of turning on my projector, my AV receiver, and the cable box; "Play Game" consists of turning on my projector, the PlayStation 2 console, and the AV receiver (this time to its corresponding input source), etc.).
When you install the Logitech application on your computer (with the use of the included CD), you are then directed to the Logitech INTERNET page. (So, again, no internet connection, no ability to set up this remote control!) By answering a series of questions, you will begin inputting the devices you have, and tweak some of the specific settings each device has to do in order to properly accomplish the activity. (It's a good idea to have handy ALL of you devices brand names AND model numbers.)
It took me around 1 hour and half to do this process the first time. I came back a second time to add some extra commands to my projector. THis "learning" is done by telling the program how you want to label this new command, and then having your original remote send the signal to the Logitech remote, in order for this one to read that signal, and store it for later use. Although I was very worried that this remote control would not be able to do that for my European version projector, it actually did it, very easily. (It also helped that Logitech's devices database is pretty huge!)
Although I believe that $150 is still kind of expensive for this type of equipment, I can say that I am, as of today, glad with my purchase. I suppose that if in the future I change to other devices (i.e. a new HDTV, a better DVD player, or BluRay player, a PC with remote control for Windows Media, etc.) and Logitech STILL maintains the database for any newer devices (as it should), then those $150 will look fairly reasonable, then.
Enjoy!
