MY LOVE/HATE RELATIONSHIP
Pros
Fast and easy text messaging, chat threads
Cons
Bad Reception, large in size, slow internet
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
I would not recommend this model but would recommend the newer Treo 700. Same features but the bugs have been fixed making it a lot better
I am HUGE into text messaging. I am a very straight to the point kind of person and that is the reason I love text messaging so much. It's very straight to the point. So when I saw that they were making phones with the QWERTY keyboard I just had to take a look. This would make text messaging sooo much easier and quicker to do. I purchased my Treo 600 from Verizon in May of 2005. In the past I had never been a Palm user or even familiar with any of it's features.
LOOKS
Lookswise this phone is very sharp looking. It is quite thick and large however compared to any other cell phone. It also weighs quite a bit which took some getting used to. It has a big 160x160 resolution screen to it along with the QWERTY keyboard which was pretty much the whole reason I got this phone to begin with. They conveniently made the buttons very easy to type on.
FEATURES
Test Messaging - This is my favorite feature about this phone. The text messages are organized using what they call a chat thread. The chat thread is so convenient and allows you to view your sent and received messages together so you can see your whole conversation to and from that specific person. No other phone I know of has this feature trust me I've looked around. For example, if you were to text someone something and they texted you back with an answer a few hours later you don't have to go back to your sent folder or try to remember what you had originally texted them. It's all right there.
Camera - I found this feature to be something that needs to be greatly improved. The pictures I took were always extremely fuzzy and hard to see. Especially trying to take a picture when there wasn't enough light out. There is no flash when there should be one. I hear that the camera on the 650 and 700 is a lot better. There is no video messaging on here either which the newer models offer.
Internet - I would only log on occasionally to check a movie time or my email. I found it to be very slow and took a long time for things to load. The newer 700 has Windows which I'm sure makes the internet viewing much better.
E-mail - In the beginning they gave you instructions to setup your e-mail so you could receive messages through your phone. I had no idea why but I was too lazy to set it up and never did it. During the day I am by my computer so I guess it really didn't bother me too much not to have it.
Hot Sync - I loved this feature very much since I lost my phone once and broke it a couple times. This feature allows you to download all your information onto your computer, so just in case you lose or break your phone you won't lose anything important.
DISLIKES
Pretty much the ONLY thing that I didn't like was the reception part of this phone. When I first got it I lived in the south part of the city and it worked fine all the time. Then later I moved to the north part of the city and for some reason that part had bad unreliable coverage. Sometimes the phone would work fine and other times the reception would cut in and out. It was very frustrating. I knew it had to be because the phone itself had weak reception because my other Verizon phone would work fine in the same exact area.
OVERALL
Besides the bad reception I very much liked this phone. Just last week I went and upgraded to the Motorola Q. I only had that phone for about a week before I went and exchanged it for the Treo 700p. The Motorola Q felt very cheaply made compared to the 600 and had system problems from the very start. The Treo 700 so far is working out great for me. The reception has not given me a problem yet so I am hopeful that I will keep this phone.
