The Bottom Line:

It's only 8 bucks....don't put too much thought into it...give it try you should be happy.

I have owned the Griffin iTrip Pocket for around 6 months and for the most part have been pretty happy with it. When my other fm transmitter died I decided to go the cheap route and not go above 20 bucks.

After narrowing it down to the iTrip and one that was a no name brand that looked similar, I decided to go for a name brand (and cheaper cost for that matter) Griffin itrip pocket. I purchased it brand new from an auction site for 7.99 + free shipping.

It is easy to use just plug into the bottom of your ipod and it turns it on and automatically starts transmitting. I didn't like that I had to trim some of the silicon skin/sleeve/case that I have protecting the ipod on the bottom so, the itrip would actually make a connection. It is a tight connection which I guess is good thing BUT just sucks that I had to cut the bottom off my $20+ iskin silicone skin/case/sleeve.

The sound is overall pretty good and can be heard loud and clear. Sometimes while driving there can be some interference but that is to be expected with fm transmitters especially ones such as the itrip (that draw juice from the ipod not from a cig lighter/power port). Wired ones that plug into the cig lighter might have a bit more transmitting power.

The one thing that wired ones CAN'T do is play it in your car grab it at the end of the trip and throw it on top of your home stereo and your good to go. If whatever is near it can grab an fm signal then your good to go...NO WIRES!!!!

A little bit about the itrip buttons/functions and what not. Like said previously you plug it into the ipod port and the unit turns on automatically (little red led on the device lets you know its on) and starts transmitting....just match up the fm station on the radio to the one displayed on the ipod screen. There are 3 buttons in which you can preset stations to switch between if one station gets to static-e

The fm station that is being transmitted is displayed on the ipods screen when first turned on or when any of the itrips buttons are pushed. You can assign 3 buttons any frequency that is on radio through 87.? - 107.?...can't remember the last few digits...but you should have no problem finding a good station.
Also a good station is one on the radio that is REALLY filled with static so the itrip is not competing with a strong radio station.

So now we talk about power. Now I do own/using a Ipod Nano 1st gen which gets around 14 hours max battery life as opposed to newer ones that have a longer battery life...just wanted that be known. The itrip draws power from the ipod but IT SUCKS the battery relentlessly.I can get about 4 hours usage out of it roughly on a full charge. Maybe I could get a bit more but I try not to let it suck the battery dry as it is not good to do that all the time...lowers battery life in general.

Can't think too much more to add...if any questions throw me a comment.

To wrap it up for the price its nice but, if I paid something like 50 bucks it would go back in favor of a wired ones which can be sometimes better. The one nice thing with the old wired one was I never had to remind myself to charge the ipod almost daily. Portability, size, very low price and being completely wireless are what makes it get 4/5 stars...not too shabby.

UPDATE: Just wanted add little something that makes you go... hhhmmm? While waiting to leave in my car yesterday I turned on some music and decided to see how far outside of my car the itrip would transmit/the range. With itrip connected to ipod in hand I walked to the end of my driveway...a good 60 feet and it was still transmitting clearly!!! On the walk back changed songs and it started to break up a bit but cleared up once I got about 30 feet away. The reason that this made me go hhhmmmm is that on occasion while driving it does get some static....and that is suprising considering that the effective range of it is pretty damn good.Just and interesting tid bit.
