Nice little accent for your Mac or PC

Pros Nicely constructed, works as advertised
Cons Slippery base
Recommended it? Yes
Ok it's pretty much totally unnecessary. But it just looks so good. Here's the pitch: it's not just a volume control, you can use it as a supplementary input device. You can set it to do custom key combinations, just like the extra buttons or scroll wheel on your mouse. So you could program it to scroll through the brushes in a photoshop palette. Or scroll down in a browser.

The knob can also be pushed, like a button, so you can program functions to that as well.

It works pretty well. I mean, how could it not? It only does like two things. It's very nicely machined and looks beautiful. I think it would be useful if you did

The only thing I don't like is that the base slips more than I would like on my desk. If you're scrolling quickly, the knob moves. If you have a rougher surface it probably doesn't move as much.

The supplied software has a bunch of preset shortcut keys for various programs, and it's really easy to make new ones for any installed apps you have. (I'm only commenting on the Mac software, as I haven't tried the PC stuff).
