The 225s Rock!

byTodd Sep 21, 1999

Pros Great live sound
Cons comfort
Recommended it? Yes

The Grado SR225 is my personal favorite in the Grado line of fine headphones. These cans really rock. Great bass, liquid mids and fairly detailed highs are the characteristics of the 225s. Their ability to deliver the impact of the music is unrivaled - you will feel the punch of the kick drum as if... Read full review »

Your Ears Still Have Not Experienced True Joy

bygadlor Feb 12, 2005

Pros Awesome clarity, tight bass, reveals depth to music you've never heard before.
Cons I tend to rub them all over my body, grunting and gyrating.
Recommended it? Yes

I had long pondered the idea of purchasing a new pair of headphones (or for the hip among us - "cans") since I figured among the price difference between my fifty dollar Sony pair and the high-priced headhuggers of such companies as AKG, Sennheiser, and of course, Grado.

As I continued to... Read full review »

Pros Sound quality, sound quality, sound quality. Accurate, tight, addictive sound and tonal...
Cons Styling not for everyone. You find yourself avoiding human interaction so you can listen.
Recommended it? Yes

Research precludes every major purchase I make, and the Grado SR225s are a perfect example of why research is critical to GREAT buying decisions!

I am an audiophile and videophile, and decided I needed to explore high-end headphones to get the most out of my iPod 5G 30gig player. I am... Read full review »

Joseph Grado has manufactured many highly respected audiophile quality products in his career, and with their line of headphones, has cemented themselves into the one of the favorite products among many an audiophile's mind. I remember owning many fine Grado phono cartridges.

Pros Superb sound clarity/fullness.
Cons Comfort takes time and use.
Recommended it? Yes

I don't claim to be an expert in audio equipment, but I would like to think that I have good judgement on the matter. I have Bose speakers, some of the better computer speakers, and now arguably a set of the best headphones on the market.

I am nothing less than astonished at the sound... Read full review »

Original Review (5/14/2000):

I have been disappointed with every pair of headphones that I have owned--unfortunately I didn't realize what I was missing until I finally did some research, got some expert opinions, and bought the SR-225s. After suffering with... Read full review »

225 Alive!

bygretax Nov 28, 2000
10 Helpfuls 11 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Price/perfomance ratio through the roof!
Cons Freakin' uncomfortable after an hour
Recommended it? Yes

My experience so far with Grado Labs has been a bit of an adventure: I started off with a "reasonably priced" set of 80s, which I took home and which lost sound to the left channel intermittently, not a good thing when you've just spent $100 on a pair of headphones and are expecting a decent return... These cans rock!

Pros Great rock-n-roll sound. Light weight. Sound great without special amplification. Good...
Cons Build quality might be considered a little on the flimsy side.
Recommended it? Yes

I did a lot of research before buying these headphones and have been extremely pleased with them. The sound is just amazing, even straight out of a portable CD player.

I've used several Sennheiser products and have read a million arguments about their high-end cans being more accurate... Read full review »

Grado SR-225 Headphones

Pros Excellent at all frequencies. Bass, mids, highs, all balanced correctly.
Cons Sounds in room come straight in. Headband looks a little old fashioned.
Recommended it? Yes

I've had my pair for years. The bass is really great because they are an open design, and they never sound muffled as closed designs do. They portray the music perfectly IMHO, and can be driven hard and not distort. For me, the sound quality of these is a Reference which I compare amplifier-speaker... Read full review »

Pros sound, sound, sound
Cons comfort, looks
Recommended it? Yes

In buying these headphones, I listened to a wide range of headphones: BeyerDynamics, Sennheisers, and Grados. Of all of them, the Grados had a nice open sound that I liked. They seem very efficient, so they work great with my portable equipment.

The sound sets them apart though. If you get... Read full review »
