The Grado 125 is the first in the Grado line that approaches true audiophile sound. It has better detail than the SR-60 or SR-80. The highs are much more realistic - not the sparkly highs of the lower cost units. Midrange is a bit recessed but dynamic and the bass is clean and tight.
The 125 is 32 ohms, with a frequency response of 20 - 20KHz. It is a supraural (sits on the ear) headphone that comes with the latest pads from Grado. The pads improve the sound over their old pads by giving better separation and tighter more accurate base. The drivers are matched to within .1dB. Comfort is good - the headphones need to be shaped by the user out of the box. They have a leather headband with a metal band beneath that is easily bent to conform to any head shape - even mine! The cable is 6 ft. and is terminated to a 1/4" plug.
These headphones make jazz and rock sound alive. Forward and dynamic with punch is how I would describe their sound. Their open design makes them a good choice in a quiet environment but not so great a choice in a noisy one!
If you don't have a fortune to spend but have golden ears and good equipment then these are the headphones for you. They can also be used as a portable headphone with a mini adapter (Grado makes one for $14.95).
