Screen gets VERY hot in tablet mode
Pros
Nice tablet features: My main reason for getting this
Cons
Bad quality, poor after sales support!
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
Think carefully before buying! You will be unhappy with the quality, service and return policies.
This was my first time buying Gateway. When I received my notebook it had problems booting up new out of the box. It got stuck after the login screen. After re-trying to boot for about 10 times, I used the recovery CD and reinstalled all the factory software. After this the notebook worked. I then checked the installation using my "registry-mechanic" program from PC tools. It found 146 errors with the installation. After letting the software correct it, the notebook seems to be booting up much faster.
A few days(2)later I noticed another problem. When using the screen in tablet mode, it gets very hot. So much that the glue holding the plastic frame at the bottom of the screen starts to melt. This causes the plastic to lift up, making a bulge.
I phoned tech support, only to be told it would cost me $40 for a UPS drop-ship box or I could ship it on my account to the service center! I complained, but was told it was Gateway's policy for the customer to pay the shipping to Gateway. I feel this is very unfair! Other companies will prepay collection and not charge the customer. If it wasn't for the 15% restocking fee that Gateway charge for returning the product, I would have got myself another Dell. (We have 3 Dell desktops in our home)
This was my first and last Gateway.
