The Bottom Line:
If you are looking for a reasonably priced, good sound phone, this would be for you.
When our telephone started picking up transmissions from the Planet Umborah we decided it was time for a new ringy-dingy. A trip to Circuit City led us to our new GE 27959GE6 telephone with built-in digital answering system.

Set up and use
You can read the 4,000 page [kidding] instruction manual that comes with the system, in either English or Spanish, or you can elect to follow the simple voice instructions offered on the phone. The instructions lead you through all set up processes including recording your outgoing message for the answering system. The phone must be on charge for 12 hours before use. It comes with a battery pack which you must install. Standard installation, plug in a little clip.
Other than that, assembly and set up took about 5 minutes. I didn't assemble the belt cradle for the handset because I don't tend to carry a phone around with me. I'm either next to the phone or I'm not. A cell phone is enough baggage to carry without toting a house phone around as well.
One nice thing we discovered, shortly after putting the phone in place we decided to move it. Of course we did, it is what people do. It didn't lose the time/day stamp we had already set in place. Now that is a great bonus.
Size
The phone base measures 6.4" x 7.4" x 2.7". It comes in black with silver highlights. Attractive really and very compact if you are limited on table space.
Warranty
It comes with the basic one year manufacturer warranty. Return phone to manufacturer for repair thing. As disposable as our society is, easier to just buy a new phone if the old one croaks on you.
Things I like
Volume control on the handset. Bonus. Caller ID capability on the handset, if we would ever decide to hook up caller ID that is. Digital answering system, no scratchy tapes anymore. Bonus.
My only complaint
Although the telephone handset is normal size, I find the earpiece a bit small. I have trouble hearing on the thing and I refuse to believe it has anything to do with age - grin. We did turn the volume up all the way on the handset and no one else seems to complain. But, then again, no one else hardly uses the darn thing but me.
Overall impression
It is a neat compact size, easy to set up. It has an attractive appearance. Basically I'm pleased with the unit in general and feel it was a decent purchase.
