The Bottom Line:
A great pair of headphones, a great microphone but a little pricey for not having inline volume control, but only a little.
The hf2 headsets are exactly what Etymotic advertises. There are no enhancements of highs and lows, only what sounds to be a nearly perfect reproduction of what the artist recorded in the studio.
I began researching headphones after stressing my out-of-the-box iphone headphones, which until then had worked servceably.
Since I travel quite a bit I was looking for headphones that had the following qualities: 1.) They were less bulky than my noise cancelling Sennheiser's, 2.) They were, at the least noise dampening, 3.) They included a mic for my iphone, and 4.) They had excellent sound quality.
These requirements severely restricted my choices, which in retrospect I am glad for due to the HUGE selection of headphones available. I narrowed my choices down to the Klipsch S4i, the Shure SE115m , and the hf2's. I determined that both the Klipschs' and the Shure's had too much bass for me (I am no spring chicken hence little appreciation for the current popular music production tastes) and additionally my experience with Shure on a previous headphone did not meet my expectations (which I am not positive is Shure's fault.)
To say the least I am not disappointed. There were 4 different ear tips (3 very different types) and only one of them did not fit well (it was too small.)
The sound quality while talking is outstanding, which is important in owning an Iphone.
The musical sound quality is exceptional. In fact it may be higher quality than I am able to really appreciate considering my pedestrian sensibilities.
The product came well packaged but not overly so (bought from the Apple Store.)
