Mine broke also
I have only had it for 6 months. Used it when I first got it - it sat on a shelf and then when I went to use it recently and it just makes noises - no arm movement. Good scans but unreliable
After about 100 scans over a 1.5 year period the drive mechanism for the print head broke. The scans were pretty good but I would not buy another one. I purchased a Canon 8600F as a replacement and it is head and shoulders over the 4180. Read full review »

The perfection 4180 photo comes with impressive photo editing software, solid OCR to WP programs and reasonable speed. As with all Epson scanners, the quality of the hardware and its performance is perfection.

Worked great until it BUSTED
The scanner sat on my desktop virtually unused for about a year. When I finally did start to use it consistently for a 2 week period, one of the plastic pins holding the pulley popped and broke.
