Good value while it lasts
Pros
Very loud bass and volume possible without getting distortion. Woofer makes a good footrest.
Cons
Potentiometers start to make scratching noises after a while.
Recommended it?
Yes
I purchased these speakers in 2004.
This was a very good sounding set of budget PC speakers with woofer. Construction is solid. The two post speakers will not normally tip over, and if they do, no big deal.
The woofer sits on the floor and is physically intimidating. Hopefully for the sanity of the people around you, you will never turn the bass up all the way. This is not something to purchase for use in an apartment complex or dorm room.
Songs just sound different with actual bass. Same thing with engine noises and explosions. These are not in the same league as the OEM speakers a manufacturer would throw in with your PC bundle order.
Unfortunately, after 4 years, just as I feared, the mouse-shaped volume and bass control's red colored mini-din connector has worn out. Bass is stuck on max, wiggling the connector causes at least a 90dB POP! BLAM! noise. Basically useless now.
