Ok here goes my following review. To help you understand where I am coming from and that I do have an understanding of the market I am also an owner of the HP Jorando, Philips Nino, and in the past I have owned 3 differnt versions of Palms all the way up to the Vx.

I got the Compaq iPaq this past December for Christmas. I needed a pocket device mainly to keep all my appointments and contact information, so I had been looking at Palm Pilots. I didn't like their no-color displays, so I never bought one.

Enter the Compaq iPaq. This pocket PC is amazing... Read full review »

Expensive But Worth It!

byCCSand May 10, 2001
55 Helpfuls 56 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Reliable, Bright Color Screen, Easy to Use & Great Customer Service
Cons Expensive Because of Low Supply
Recommended it? Yes

I bought my iPaq H3650 (which has exactly the same features as the H3630) two months ago. My new job requires me to keep track of much more detail than ever before, and I was beginning to need help keeping track of my personal commitments. I've always hated paper calendars precisely because I don't... Read full review »

I recieved my iPAQ in a beta-test from the company in my school and have the rescourse to see what this can do in looking at 26 others, as aposed to just one. Part of this review is from a letter I wrote to the company. The cost I wrote is what they told us it cost.

Great Pocket PC ... But Do You Need It?

byriceboy22 Jun 29, 2001

Pros Fast processor; nice color display; QMenu button; just plain looks cool!
Cons Build quality; short battery life; expansion packs double the size of the unit
Recommended it? Yes

Just a quick background before I get into the positives and negatives of the Compaq IPaq 3630. I bought the unit from Circuit City right around the time it came out (August 2000) at the MSRP. I guess I was pretty lucky at the time, because myself and two coworkers all managed to pick it up at the... Read full review »

Pros Super screen, useful apps, great service.
Cons Forget to charge it and it will forget you own it!
Recommended it? Yes

Much as I hate to contribute to the "Microsoft takes over another niche" trend, I gotta say that the Ipaq 3630 is a serious rival to the Palm OS. The backlit, reflective color screen is quite bright and easy to read in situations ranging from direct sunlight to midnight dark. At the time I bought... Read full review »

Having used many Pocket PC?s and ?handhelds? over the last few years, I have noticed a remarkable improvement in capabilities and power.

Still, most of these devices offer a less than desirable performance for a painful price. The main let down has been the use of the operating system, as... Read full review »

My company bought me a iPAQ H3630 several months ago. Initially, I thought it can be used as my personal organizer as well as a smaller laptop. However, now I only use it to play MP3 songs, viewing photos and recording voice in meetings, not even playing games. Why? It's all bcoz of the following... Read full review »

Preface:
Given the large number of very thorough reviews, I will not do a formal write-up of the IPaq's features and programs. This review will be more of a 'straight-from-the-hip' discussion of my experiences.

Review Summary:
This thing kicks BOOTY!

Good product but get a newer model

bymastercha May 19, 2002

Pros Bright, clear display; easy to use and much better than Palm
Cons no CF slot built in, freezes constantly, no real use for a college student

I got the IPAQ 3630 as a present from my roomate for Hanukah. My first thought was what a sweet little thing this was! It was sleek looking, the color screen was great and it is very easy to use if you are used to Windows. Although I find the writing program annoying and useless, it is far better... Compaq iPAQ 3630 Color Pocket PC

Compaq's iPAQ Pocket PC combines a 206 MHz Intel StrongARM processor, new hardware, and a sleek industrial design that fits in your hand to create a powerful and stylish PDA you can take anywhere. It offers 32 MB RAM and 16 MB ROM--enough memory to hold a robust package of applications while leaving you a lot of room for your own applications. The color TFT screen produces 4,086 colors, and you can view the screen from many angles and in a variety of lighting situations. The Compaq iPAQ wraps the power of a Microsoft Windows operating system in a new interface designed for ease of use in a portable format. Even if you've never used a computer or digital organizer, learning to use the Compaq iPAQ is easy. Other highlights of the Compaq iPAQ include a microphone and a speaker as well as an audio-in jack. It features an infrared port for wireless data transfer. The Compaq iPAQ uses five buttons plus a five-way joystick. The iPAQ connects to either USB or serial ports. The iPAQ allows you to input data in your own handwriting, by soft keyboard, by voice recorder, or through inking. Both audible and visual alarms alert you when you have a scheduled event. What sets this Pocket PC apart from similar devices on the market is its sleevelike expansion-pack system. The expansion-pack system allows you add functionality to suit your particular needs. Expansion-pack options currently include a CompactFlash pack, the ability to attach a CompactFlash card slot to your iPAQ, an executive leather and PC Card expansion pack, and a water-resistant sports pack. In the future, Compaq plans to release a global positioning system pack, so you can turn your iPAQ pocket PC into a GPS unit. The Compaq iPAQ is sporty and small. At 5.11 by 3.28 by 0.62 inches and 6 ounces, it fits in your hand or slides into your pocket with ease. Don't let the size fool you into thinking you don't get many applications with your iPAQ. You receive a great deal of Microsoft software, such as Pocket versions of Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, and Outlook as well as the full desktop version of Outlook 2000. Compaq also has built-in utilities so that frequent actions--such as switching between tasks, adjusting volume, or changing backlighting-- are only a click away. Compaq offers a one-year warranty on parts and labor for the iPAQ.
