The Canon Powershot SD450/ Digital IXUS 55 digital camera a perfect stocking stuffer

Pros Ultra compact, 2.5" LCD, 5 megapixels, very fast, user friendly, and ISO 50...
Cons Average battery life, red-eye, chromatic aberration, and noisy ISO 400 images
Recommended it? Yes

Canon has long been the leading player in the ultra-compact digicam business and the new Canon Powershot SD450/Digital IXUS 55 digital camera clearly demonstrates why. This digicam is truly tiny, but Canon's engineers managed to stuff a 5 megapixel CCD image sensor, a fully retractable 3X optical... Read full review »

Canon Powershot SD450 / IXUS 55 Digital Camera - Not Much of Improvement Over SD400

bydkozin Oct 15, 2005
33 Helpfuls 34 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Huge screen, compact size, weight, looks nice, fast, pleasing photos
Cons Red eye, not much manual control, low LCD resolution, no substantial improvement over...
Recommended it? Yes

After Canon released the 5-Megapixel Canon PowerShot SD450, I decided to find out how much different it is from the Canon SD400. On the surface, it seemed that the only difference would be the larger LCD screen (2.5-inch vs. 2-inch on SD400).

I have bought the Canon SD450 for $330, which... Read full review »

A Trend Worth A Second Glance

bynoangels Apr 27, 2006
16 Helpfuls 17 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Great picture quality and a viewfinder option for when the screen is not visible
Cons Only 3x optical zoom and advanced features may take some reading
Recommended it? Yes

The current trend in camera purchases right now is that everyone wants the "small" and "cute" cameras that fit in a purse or a pocket. To be completely honest, most of these cameras are not worth half of what it will cost to fix it once it is broken from being put in a pocket or a purse. The Canon... Read full review »

Very good compact camera, great for capturing video in a small form factor

byoman9 Mar 12, 2006

Pros Small, light, does video/pictures well. Having a small camera means you'll bring it...
Cons Red Eye (all compacts have this issue), battery life could be better.
Recommended it? Yes

I bought this camera to bring along with me on a family vacation. I didn't feel like lugging my dSLR (digital single lens reflex) along with me along with the lenses and I also wanted something that could capture video/audio. I did a lot of research (I always do a lot of research) and found this... Read full review »

My Little Dream Camera

byRusshoolio Aug 3, 2006

Pros Lots! Size. Colors. Ease of use. Battery life.
Cons Manual mode isn't actually a manual mode. It's a filthy lie!
Recommended it? Yes

I love this camera. It goes with me everywhere.

What I like:

The size: It's small enough to fit in my pocket comfortably and big enough to hold comfortably.

Battery Life: The battery is small and light, yet lasts about 2 days with frequent (non-flash) use.

Ixy 60 - same camera, different name - but still no Linux drivers???

Pros Compact and good looking
Cons No linux drivers!

This Canon Digital comes in a range of guises, depending on the market where it is purchased; the one on review here is actually listed as an Ixy60 - the Japanese number (why the US & UK models are Ixus 55 anyone can guess).

This camera was purchased as a Parallel Import here in NZ and... Read full review »

ANOTHER ELPH

The Canon Digital Elph series has been around a while now, and it is still available in retail store chains - now at a nice low price, too. In the Canon camera lineup the Elphs have always been known as the small, stylish, and usually metal bodied models. They've never been... Read full review »

The Size is Good but the Pictures Could be Better

byundergraduate Jan 2, 2007
10 Helpfuls 11 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Size, Huge LCD, Optical Zoom
Cons No battery Meter, Blurry Pictures, Noisy Pictures
Recommended it? No

I was in the market for a new digital camera and my number one selling point was getting a camera that was of a good quality and price that was small. I don't know about other people, but I hate having to carry around some huge camera because in the end it means you end up leaving the camera behind... Read full review »

I'd give it a "B-"

byrwpilmore Oct 25, 2006
10 Helpfuls 11 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Movie mode, large display screen, feature laden
Cons Only fair still image quality. A little heavy likely because of metal case.

I've had this camera for several months now. Previously, I had a Fuji A-210 (3MP) which took beautiful pictures. (See my other reviews for a review of the Fuji A-210) I was a little surprised to find this camera didn't quite measure up with the Fuji's image quality. While I can't say the image... Only Good as Long as it Works

Pros This camera that takes great photos and a good package of features.
Cons If it's broken, it doesn't mater how good the picture would have been.
Recommended it? No

I had this camera for a year and it worked fine: great pictures, good battery life, and easy to use menus. I was delighted. I have wonderful pictures from vacations. The menu organizations was good and I was able adjust the camera for a variety of conditions. The battery life was acceptable.
