Has been a great camera

Pros Good picture quality
Uses AA batteries
Fairly small but still has the ability to manually adjust settings
Cons takes time to charge flash, has made us miss a couple shots
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line: Very happy for the price range with its qualtiy and features
I bought this camera, teh Canon SX110IS for my wife for Christmas last year because she was not happy with her Kodak EasyShare. The Kodak only seemed to give good shots in perfect lighting.
When I picked this camera, there a few features that were must-haves.

Image stabilizer- some of the compact models didn't have this.

AA cells. It is really nice if we're out of town and take a bunch of pictures to be able to just buy some AA's and keep going. When I bought the camera I bought some Sanyo Enerloop batteries because they hold their charge on the shelf well. So far having 2 sets (one in the camera, one in the case) has been plenty of power for us. The date and time stamp are kept active by a CR1220 (button cell).

SDHC Cards - The HC lets you use higher capacity. I refused to buy a Sony for the sole reason that they use a proprietary memory card that costs twice as much money.

Large Screen - this canon has a nice large viewing screen to review pictures.

Manual options with a good automatic feature. Most of the time, the automatic function works well. There's also Shutter speed priority, aperterture priority, etc. I have managed to make some awesome nighttime shots using these. I was impressed when I took some pictures of our jack-o-lanterns. I changed some setting, and the entire picture came out almost perfect, the candle didn't ruin the shot at all.

What I don't like is the amount of time it can take to charge the flash and process some pictures.

I have mixed feeling about the flip up flash. A lot of people seem to hate it, but sometimes I like the fact that if I don;t want the glare of the flash I can just leave it folded down.

The bottom line - If I had to replace this one, I would buy a new Canon SX120IS (basically the same thing with slightly higher resolution and some updates). i think it has been an excellent camera for the cost. If I had the extra 500 bucks I might upgrade to something a little better.
