Versatile Camcorder/Still Camera with Crisp Picture

Cons
Hard to use if you have big hands.

Yes
The Bottom Line:
Combination camcorder/still camera takes great video and great outdoors photos. Small size makes use somewhat difficult for people with medium/large hands.
After much research, my husband purchased this camera for me about two years ago. I had been lugging around a Sony camcorder and a still camera and wanted to try a camcorder/still camera combination. The Canon Optura 600 has been so convenient!
The video quality is fantastic for such a little camera. I can record in low light, from far away using the zoom, in bumpy situations using the image stabilizer feature. Using the software that comes with the camera, I can connect the camera to my computer and with a few clicks, easily burn DVDs of our home videos. (I had to buy a more powerful computer, but that's another story...)
The still camera function is not as fantastic as the video camera. Outdoors, the photos are wonderful if I remember to adjust the flash settings (on or off as needed; AUTO does not always choose the best option). But indoors, the colors are often skewed. If I manually set the white balance, the colors won't be terribly off. Even when I manually set the white balance, I often have to adjust the colors of indoor photos using Adobe Photoshop. I did buy a 1 gig photo memory card since the one that comes with the camera only holds a few photos.
Overall, I have been very pleased with the 2-in-1 convenience and portability of the camera. (It is so small that it easily fits into my husband's coat pocket; it is also so small that it is somewhat difficult for people with medium/large hands to use.) If you don't mind adjusting the colors of the still photos here and there, this is a great camera.
