The Bottom Line:
Great product to use for regular backups or just for additional storage.
I've only been using this drive for a little over a week, but it's been great so far. It is very easy to setup, it's very quiet, and it comes with feature-rich software.
I had no issues setting up the hard drive, and Windows XP recognized the device as it should. The Dantz software that comes with the product allows the user to setup regular backup schedules of selected volumes. The backup process can create compressed backup files, or it can backup files in their native/uncompressed format. I had some trouble running some backups initially - for some reason it was skipping a couple of my subdirectories. I assume this was my mistake, but it has happened twice. I then tried the express backup process (which is easily invoked by one of the buttons on the front of the unit), and chose to only backup "documents" (presumably, this skips .exe, .dll, etc type files). This worked very well, as all Word, Excel, MP3 documents were backed up as I expected. It's now on schedule to run every week.
The product is also smart enough to stay online if a backup is in process, even when the power off button is pressed.
On another note, the product can be setup vertically or it can be laid horizontally and stacked. It's no wider than my PC, so it takes up hardly any space in my home office.
